Financial Landscapes is a series of works that explore the possibilities of rendering financial data as a landscape. These imaginary environments, rendered in both the virtual and physical world, invite the viewer to experience the behavior of the stock market as a generative terrain.
Dow Jones Industrial Landscape was the initial piece in this series and renders the thirty stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial Average as it currently stands. The pieces visualize a twelve year sample of historical stock data, from 2000-2012, and render price over time along the flat plane, while daily volume of shares traded gives the terrain its height. The video animation is a study for an installation in which real-time stock data would introduce different weather patterns into the environment, further altering its landscape.
The sculptures in this series were made using three-dimensional software and printing techniques. The logos of each company are imprinted on its tile, allowing the topography to distort the recognizable brands.

A 3d rendering exploring tiling of the logos onto the landscape derived from financial data of the companies on the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 2012
Video art I made setting a track to a 3d fly through to explore the dynamically derived mesh generated in Processing
A low poly version made in Unity testing animation of the vertices to correlate to other factors like weather cycles
